Parallels of Christianity in Exodus

by Ronald Gordon

In the above Scripture, the Apostle Paul reveals that the Old Testament served, among many things, as an instructor that would point us to Christ. In this momentous excursion through the wilderness, God has given us spiritual pointers that direct us to Jesus Christ. In the following table, we discover how the entire Exodus wilderness wandering may not have been just a hap-hazard period of idleness, but rather a carefully designed pre-lecture on Christianity. It would then be detailing the life of a Christian from their spiritual release from the bondage of sin (Egypt), to their future crossing (Jordan) from this life into the arms an eternal God. The songwriter Fannie Crosby eloquently captured this moment of bodily translation in the famous old hymn “Near The Cross” where in the refrain she writes: “In the cross, in the cross, be my glory ever, till my raptured soul shall find, rest beyond the River.”
